Homemade Chex mix

So this one is a bit different than my other posts since this one is more of a snack then a meal but anyways this Chex Mix is something my mom would always make around Christmas time and i really enjoyed it so when I was home over the break I asked her for the recipe. This one is pretty simple as well it just requires a decent amount of stuff to make, nothing too expensive but a lot of different ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of corn chex wheat chex and rice chex
  • 1 cup mixed nuts
  • 1 cup of pretzels
  • 1 cup of garlic flavored
  • 6 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons onion powder

One ingredient that isn’t listed and not completely necessary is 1 cup of frosted cheerios. These give a slightly sweet flavor to the savory chex mix and I think its a good contrast. This recipe takes about 30 minutes to make give or take about 10 minutes depending on how crisp you want to make the mix.

Instructions

  • In a large microwavable bowl mix the chex nuts pretzels, and bagel chips(and cheerios if you want).
  • in a smaller bowl melt the butter and mix in the seasonings until thoroughly mixed
  • coat the cereal in the butter mix and stir evenly until it is all coated.
  • pour the mix onto a large cookie sheet or a roaster pan in on even layer and cook on about 300 for 10 minutes
  • if some parts are not crisp cook for another 5 minutes checking regularly

If you are a fan of chex mix then i can guarantee you will enjoy this. It is reminiscent of the bold flavor of chex mix and it is super easy to make and makes a large amount perfect for parties or get togethers of any kind.

  1. Frosted Cheerios? That will be a first for me. My husband is the cook and he has his family recipe of Chex Mix too. My favorite piece is the Gardetto brown Rye chip. I steal them all and leave him with just Rice Chex!
